Our client in the agricultural sector is looking for an experienced, hands-on farm manager. The ideal candidate will have a degree in an agriculture-related field and at least three years of experience growing crops like maize, soybeans, sorghum, and lucerne for cattle feed production, while managing all associated operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the farm, ensuring that production goals are met efficiently and effectively. This includes planning crop rotations, managing soil health, and implementing pest management strategies to maximize yield and reduce losses.

Requirements

Develop a long-term production strategy to ensure a consistent quality and reliable supply of maize, soya beans, sorghum and Lucerne grass for cattle feed production.
Plan and implement crop rotation system to maximize yields.
Budgets, controls and coordinates all machinery, chemical, irrigation and labour requirements within his/her farming area.
Liaises with the agronomy department to ensure all pest, disease and weed control management programmes are executed, and all agricultural inputs are supplied timeously.
Responsible for planning, implementing, managing and monitoring of labour activities and productivity in the field.
Ensuring seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other supplies are regularly restocked.
Preparing plans and schedules for crop harvesting and reducing waste in the process.
Perform post-season yield analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of the growing area and field and give recommendations to Agriculture General Manager.
