Fairways Homes For - Harare, Zimbabwe

Fairways home, located at No. 38 Bodle Avenue, Eastlea, Harare, Zimbabwe; was established following an initiative by the women`s Guild, the Rotary Club of Salisbury and many individuals notably Mr. H. M Barbour, Sir Athol Evans and Mr. A. R. W. Stumbles. The Salisbury municipality donated approximately 7 Acres to enable the project to proceed. The foundation stone for the first cottages was laid by Lady Kennedy, wife of Sir John Kennedy, the then Governor of Southern Rhodesia, on 18th of January 1951. The 8 cottages formed the basis of the complex as it now stands.
Fairways was registered as a welfare organization in 1968 (W.O 205/68) and it is administered by an Executive Committee drawn from the legal profession, businessman and women as well as representatives of Rotary and the Loyal

Gradually, after the first 8 cottages, we built 50 self-catering flats and cottages as well as H.M Barbour House and the Frail Care unit. The Library, Hobby Room, Staff rooms and Store rooms followed. The well-known Methodist Minister of the time Rev Frank Mussel, was very instrumental in the establishment of the interdenominational Chapel. Fairways can now accommodate 100 people.
